Lisbon and the Age of the Discoveries Private Walking Tour
Overview
In this Tour I will show you the most iconic monuments, and tell you the stories, related to the Sea Discoveries of the Portuguese sailors on the 15th and 16th centuries, and why Lisbon became a multicultural city and centre for the international sea trade in Europe.
We will start from Lisbon's main square , where the Royal Palace and the commercial streets were located in the 16th century. Then we will take the Tram along the river and go to Belem area, where you will learn about Vasco da Gama, and where he departed from to his famous trip to India; about King Manuel, his big ego, and his exotic animals (including a rhinoceros. . . ) ; the story behind the construction of the Jeronimos Monastery; and why the end of a civil war in the 19th century gave birth to one of Lisbon's best pastries!
