Overview
Bhutan is a small land lock country nestled between two gaints: China in the north and India in the east. Bhutan's total square kilometer is 38,117 square kilometer. She is a small Himalayan kingdom with the total population of approximately 8,00,000. However, what Bhutan lacks in size makes up in nature and rich culture. The idea of gross national happiness emerged from Bhutan where one's happiness is more valuable than weath. With unique identities and mesmerizing landscapes one can experience the heaven on earth here. With 70% of the land coverage being forest one can also experience the real nature with various species of flora and fauna. Bhutan is said the land of the thunder dragon or the carbon negative country. We welcome everybody with open hearts.
Paro airport ( 2200 meters asl) arrival to Thimphu. Tachog lhakhang(15th century) on the way from Paro to Thimphu. Takes around 1½ hour drive to reach Thimphu from Paro.
Thimphu( 2300 meters asl) sightseeing includes hikes, Buddha point( biggest Buddha statue in Bhutan 169 feet), national memorial stupa (dedicated to the late 3rd king of Bhutan built in 1974), tashicho dzong (seat of Bhutan government), takin preserve center (national animal of Bhutan) , traditional school of 13 arts and crafts, national textile museum, simple Bhutan (living museum where one can experience tradition and culture of Bhutan). Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan from 1960's.
It takes around 2½ hours drive from Thimphu to Punakha (1300 meters asl), Dochula pass (3100 meters asl) connects Thimphu and Punakha district and can witness the western Himalaya ranges), chimi lhakhang (temple of fertility built in 15 century), Punakha dzong (most beautiful dzong in Bhutan must visit built in 1637, where first king of Bhutan was crowned), Khamsum yulley namgyel hike (around 40 mins hike), and river rafting (adventurous experience).
It takes around 3½ hours drive from Punakha to Phobjikha (the glacier valley at 2800 meters asl). Gangtey lhakhang (one of the oldest temples built in 15th century), black necked crane center (endangered specie of birds often said to be the heavenly bird and migrates from Tibet to Bhutan). Gangtey nature trail (walk your way through pine forest with picturesque view of the valley).
It takes around 5 hours drive from Phobjikha to Paro. Here, we can see Paro dzong (built in 1644), national museum (built in 1649 served as a watch tower back in days) Kichu lhakhang (one of the oldest temples build in 7th century).
Paro tiger nest hike (dates back to 8th century where one can hike for 6-7 hours uphill and embrace the nature and the ancient temple).
