A walk in the footsteps of the Medici and other historic Florentine families
Overview
With this walking tour through the city, I would really like you to discover how it is possible to visit Florence as if it were an open-air museum.
Buildings, statues, and basilicas. Did you know that in some churches you can enter without paying a ticket and see magnificent frescoed chapels that tell the story of Renaissance Florentine families? Well, come join me to find out all about it!
We will start from Piazza Santissima Annunziata with an entrance to the Cloister of the Dead to admire the frescoes by Pontormo, Rosso Fiorentino and Andrea del Sarto.
Then a walk along Via Cavour, where the first Medicean residence, Palazzo Medici Riccardi, is located. We will continue with a visit to Piazza San Lorenzo, where there is the oldest Basilica in Florence, the first public library founded by the Medici (Biblioteca Laurenziana) with the famous staircase built by Michelangelo, and the Medici Chapels where all members of the Medici family are buried.
From here we will go to Piazza San Giovanni, the square of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Baptistery, and Giotto's Bell Tower.
The next stop will be Piazza della Signoria with the magnificent Loggia full of sculptures and the Uffizi Palace.
Lastly, from here we will cross the Ponte Vecchio in the direction of Palazzo Pitti.
